SELF-DIRECTED LEARNER

Professional Learning Community

During this residency, I have been challenged to step outside my comfort zone, expose myself to numerous websites, applications, and professional resources, and try a great deal of these resources out in the classroom. Although unaware, in the beginning, of what I would be requested to do, I am happy to say that my knowledge base surrounding various programs has grown. Click on the above icons to find out how each has enhanced my skills as a student and educator.

 Chicago Foundation for Education

In April, I was presented with the opportunity to become a member of an action research team. With the group, Strengthening Literacy with Research Based Instructional Strategies, we  will research and learn new teaching strategies for teaching literacy that can implemented in our classroom. In exchange for my hard work and diligence, I received three hundred dollars towards my classroom.

Indiana Education Conference

Every year, Indianapolis hosts the Indiana Black Expo. This event, although open to everyone, caters to the African American community. This year, during the expo, they committee has decided to have an education seminar. The workshops, for the conference, include but are not limited to the Common Core Education Panel, Project Based Learning is 21st Centur Learning, Overrepresentation of Vulnerable Populations in Special Education, Straight Talk about School Reform, and more. I plan on attending at least one or two of these workshops in order to enhance my classroom, and knowledge base.
