During the month of May, one week is dedicated to children's books. During this week, the parents of my classroom were invited to come and read their favorite children's book to their child's class. This video highlights one of the parents, from Harvard School of Excellence, sharing her daughter's favorite book. Towards the end of the clip, you will notice my parent becoming camera shy. Having a desire to include the families of my students, at Tarkington, in the monthly activites of the classroom, I created a monthly newsletter that included what we were studying during that time period, school activities, important dates, classroom birthdays, and free as well as affordable family activities in Chicago. My goal was to make the parents of Tarkington feel as if they had an active role in their child's academic life. By creating the newsletter, it sparked interest in parents to volunteer in the classroom .
